Model: Terrex Fast GTX Surround
The Terrex punched its way through any terrain we threw at it and never seemed to slip. Its outsole sports minimalist, triangular treads that mimic patterns found on car tires, and the design and 5-millimeter lugs held fast in everything from loose rock to ice. A tester who brought them to Alaska never even bothered to unpack his mountaineering boots, choosing the Terrex for missions across talus fields and over glaciers with up to 40 pounds on his back. Bonus: These boots use the Gore-Tex Surround system, which vents air through midsole channels to keep your feel cool. “I didn’t sweat at all while wearing the Terrex in warm weather in the high country around Washington’s Mt. Stuart,” says one of our testers.
