Experience one of California’s famous coastal landscapes on a 15-mile shuttle through Point Reyes National Seashore.

Camp along a wild shoreline and walk under old-growth canopy on one of the Golden State’s premier hiking routes. September is a great time to hit the Sky Trail in Point Reyes National Seashore—crowds diminish and huckleberries flourish, though the views, as always, stretch the length of the Point Reyes peninsula. This 15-mile shuttle hike begins on the spine of Inverness Ridge and descends through a lush forest of Douglas fir to open coastal bluffs. Start at the Sky trailhead off Limantour Road; in 1.3 miles, pass one of three backcountry camping areas, then descend to the Coast Trail. Head south along the Coast Trail for 9.7 miles past deserted beaches and open bluffs to Wildcat Camp. The next morning, continue 5.5 miles to Palomarin trailhead.-Hike provided by Matt Heid, author of "101 Hikes in Northern California" (Wilderness Press)
