Pine-dotted canyons, a gurgling creek, and summit views of Rocky Mountain National Park highlight this 5.4-mile dayhike near Boulder.

Rating

Hike west from the trailhead through open conifer forest. The trail climbs up Gregory Canyon, paralleling Gregory Creek. After a mile, the terrain flattens briefly as the path curves around a forested ridge, then travels south. At mile 1.4, bear left at trail fork and hike southeast up a small drainage. The route turns right onto the Ranger Trail and ascends Green Mountain’s northwest ridge .2 mile later—savor views of wooded ridgelines to the northwest across Panther Canyon. The trail crests the boulder-strewn summit of Green Mountain at mile 2.7. Scale the summit’s largest boulder to sign the register and to find views of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Indian Peaks.
