FAQ: Backpacker Digital Subscriptions

Q: I am an existing print subscriber, how do I get a digital subscription?
A: iPad/iPhone users can purchase a $4.99 digital upgrade to go with their print subscription by clicking the link above; currently, we do not support other platforms with print + digital options. Android users see
below to purchase digital issues and subscriptions via links for the Kindle Fire, and Google Play stores. If you have Windows or want a desktop version, that page also has links to the Zinio and Nook stores.

Q: I already have a subscription to Backpacker from iTunes, do I need a password?
A: No. The password feature in the Backpacker app is only for users who subscribe directly from this Web site, which is also the only place you can order a bundled print + digital subscription.

Q: My iTunes auto-renewed, can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, subscriptions purchased from Apple are out of our control. Manage your iTunes auto renewal

Q: What is the difference between buying an iPad/iPhone subscription from this site versus iTunes?
A: There is no difference in the end product. By purchasing from us you have the option of adding a print edition to your order and your order will be managed by us. If you purchase from iTunes, your order will be handled by Apple.

The 1st generation models lack a GPS chip required to run the application.   Battery Life: While we optimize our code to cut down on power requirements, continued use of the GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. For longer dayhikes or overnight trips, we suggest packing backup battery packs to charge the phone.
