Yes, there’s a new killer to worry about on your next hike— if it’s in Arizona’s Santa Rita Mountains. Since October 2012, a 200-pound jaguar—named for the Native American word “yaguar,” which means “he who kills with one leap”—has been roaming the range, sinking its 4-inch, blade-like fangs into its prey (deer and javelinas).
