Return of Smokey the Bear...Again
Forest Service urges us to "Get Our Smokey On" to prevent wildfires
A scant two years after Smokey the Bear was re-imagined as a hulking, Sam Elliot-voiced computer-generated beast who could morph out of anyone he pleases, he's back and re-re-imagined—still computer-generated, only this time on perhaps a tighter budget. And yes, the U.S. Forest Serviceand the Ad Council have chosen to keep him saddled with that endearingly awkward and seemingly backwards catchphrase, "Get Your Smokey On."But the big news is this: Smokey finally gets a backstory. Check it out:
Once you get past the sub-par production values and voice acting, the animated stills showing his past is quietly poignant, and much more effective than his conversations with the bug-eyed kids. If your home and family was destroyed by wildfires, wouldn't you want to go work out at the gym and scare kids straight? I would.

Try a little editing. The name is "Smokey Bear", not "Smokey The Bear". You've probabley been watching too much "Bozo The Clown".
Horrible production. I couldn't get through it. Besides the bad voicing, the artwork of the characters is a cheap copy of Jimmy Neutron. Poor Smokey! Hasn't he suffered enough?
This brings back memories of seeing the living symbol Smokey Bear at the zoo in Washington D.C. during the 60's. I'm glad the new symbol is closer to the historic Smokey Bear symbol and glad I missed the morphing Smokey Bear.
Smokey had to go to the gym and get buffed so he could break into the bear canisters everybody is using these days
I think kids will enjoy it (they seem to not care about bad acting). If it were me, I would've cut the preliminary stuff out and just stuck with Smokey's memories of being in a fire.
And I think they could've done without the kid's really bad Spanish accent. Or is it supposed to be Indian? I'm Latina and I'm not sure if it makes me laugh or shudder!
