Inspirational Grand Canyon Photos

Get lost in these spectacular reader photos of the Grand Canyon
Warning: These photos will make you want to drop everything and visit the Grand Canyon now. Don't- a lifelist trip like this will take some time to plan. Instead plan now for a trip in October, when crowds thin out, daytime temps are still in the 80's and the last of the motorized boats have finished their tours. Start by checking out the GPS routes on our Grand Canyon page.
  • Bright Angel Trail, Indian Garden, and Plateau Point can all be seen from this viewing spot behind Bright Angel Lodge on the South Rim (Sambuddha Mukherjee)
  • Looking down at Bright Angel Trail switchbacks (Steven L Ancik)
  • The light is so gorgeous in the Grand Canyon you get views like this, even from the roadside lookout points. (©2008 John C. Bayler)
  • A pink Rattlesnake near the creek, in spring 2006. (Jim Ahrman)
  • The Granaries are found along the Nakoweap Trail, one of the hardest trails in the canyon. (Alan English)
  • A snowy view while heading down the South Kaibab Trail in March 2008 (Robin Despain)
  • Off-trail, a few miles from Cottonwood campground, lies this view of a narrow canyon waiting to be rediscovered. (Sambuddha Mukherjee)
  • Point Royal offers wide canyon views. (Ct Collins)
  • Desert bighorn sheep are found throughout the canyon, often by the river. This male, part of a large group including other males, females and babies, was seen near the top of Bright Angel Trail. (Brian Dunn)
  • Dawn near Cottonwood Creek (David Darling)
  • Hiker on the South Kaibab Trail (Steven L Ancik)
  • A snowy view of the canyon in March 2010 (Carol Skalsky)

Photo 2 shows switchbacks on South Kaibab above the Tonto Platform. This is the best way to get down into the canyon. Just go early or late in the day/season to avoid the heat.

Wow; some beautiful shots of "The Big Ditch!" Could you make them available as high-res wallpaper? Thanks,

That is what I said to myself also because we have those pictures from hiking down and up 2 times in a year! Wonderful thing to do and worth it-haven't found a hike that compares
