  • Yumnuts. "These big, meaty cashews are lightly coated with flavors that my palette craves on long hikes," raves Gear Editor Kristin Hostetter. Best flavors: Toasted Coconut, Chocolate, and Spicy Cajun. $5 (5 oz. bag); yumnutsnaturals.com
  • Lenny & Larry's Complete Cookie. "Not only are these massive cookies soft, chewy, and oh so delicious, they're also packed with protein and fiber," says Associate Editor Kim Phillips. $1.99 each; lennylarry.com
  • Honey Stinger Waffle. This fast fave of our testers is sweetened with cane sugar and honey. "They're a tasty alternative to heavy, dry energy bars," says Web Producer Katie Herrell. "Plus, they're shaped like mini waffles!" $1.39 each; honeystinger.com
  • Perky Jerky. "Although I didn't get a noticeable energy boost from the secret ingredient (guarana), it tastes just like jerky should—smoky and soft," says Hostetter. $5 (2 oz. bag); perkyjerky.com
  • Nuun U Natural Hydration. "I'm not a fan of sweet drink mixes, but this added a lovely refreshing undertone to my water that hit the spot—and masked lingering yuck from treated water," says Hostetter. $7.95 (1 tube; 16 tablets); uhydration.com
  • Journey Bar. "This is a welcome change from overly sweet, chocolatey bars," says Hostetter. "It tastes and feels like a cracker." Flavors: Parmesan Romano and Coconut Curry. $19 (12 pack); journeybar.com
  • Honey Stinger Energy Chews. "On a recent trip, I had to beg, trade, and steal for these luscious drops of fruity goodness," says Assistant Editor Ted Alvarez. "The quick burst of chewy sweetness always felt like a treat." $2 each; honeystinger.com

I tried a couple of the Journey Bar Coconut Curry bars. They were fantastic! They really are different than all the other kind of bars out there. I can't do the chocolate bars on a century ride, but this bar was great for the ride. Sustainable energy and great unique flavor.

Just go for real food. Dried fruits, nuts, crackers and cheese, apples, etc. What the heck is up with all this frankenfood?

Depending on what you are doing, sometimes a nutrition bar is just the most convenient way to eat. Might as well find one that tastes good!
