Trail Chef: Backcountry Eggnog

Just because you're 10 miles into the wilderness doesn't mean you should miss out on holiday drinks.

Camping this Christmas? Toast the season with this tasty concoction.  

Eggless Eggnog

(makes 4 servings)
 
Half a 3.4-ounce box instant French vanilla pudding
3 cups milk (powdered milk or more-shelf-stable soy milk works also)
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 ounces bourbon or rum (more or less as desired)
 
In a large bowl, combine French vanilla pudding mix with 2 cups cold milk and whisk for 2 minutes. Allow to chill for 5 minutes. Add rum or bourbon and nutmeg to pudding mixture, then slowly mix in remaining milk until mixture is the consistency of a smoothie (thick but drinkable). Pour into individual servings and enjoy!
