Knot Tying: Learn the Sledge Knot

Use this knot to tie logs together when making a raft.

  • Wrap the rope around the logs two times.
  • Bring the working end of the rope underneath the standing end.
  • Loop the working end over the standing end.
  • Wrap the working end around the standing end three times.
  • Feed the working end through the middle of the top two loops, over the bottom loop, then back through the hole.
  • Tighten the knot. Make sure it's snug against the logs.
