Backpack Review: Integral Designs Silcoat

A daypack and waterproof stuff sack in one

by: The Backpacker Editors

Here's a no-brainer multitasker everyone should have: a daypack-cum-stuff sack. Our Northwest editor used the 5-ounce pack to haul food, water, and extra clothing while bagging 10,000-foot summits from a basecamp in Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness. He reports, "The pack carries 10 to 12 pounds just fine, though a sternum strap would help for the heaviest loads." It's made with waterproof, silicone-impregnated nylon, and has a drawcord closure top, thin shoulder straps, and a removable 1-inch-wide webbing belt. When not in use as pack or sack, it stuffs into its own pocket, shrinking to the size of a fat wallet.

Price: $50
Size: 1,500 cu. in.
