Silent rattlesnakes emerging in South Dakota’s Black Hills

All the venom, none of the warning.

Not to worry you or anything, but via NPR comes news that ‘silent’ rattlesnakes are popping up more frequently in South Dakota these days. Due to a genetic mutation, these snakes don’t have audible rattles and are thus unable to scare off potential predators (or unlucky hikers). Nevertheless, they won’t think twice about taking a bite out of you if you wander too close. Have a listen to the report:
