Moose may look like big docile stuffed animals, but don't be fooled: these behemoths can turn aggressive in a hurry. One Maine wildlife researcher got a scary reminder of this earlier this month while radio-collaring a young female. After getting to its feet, the animal charged the scientist not once, but twice. TIME has the footage:
Fortunately, neither moose nor researcher sustained any major injuries. But the footage shows why it's a good idea to give these animals plenty of space if you encounter one on the trail. After all, you'd hate to see this scene repeated by a 1,000-lb adult with a full set of antlers.
