The search for missing hiker and beloved outdoor writer Karen Sykes has been suspended after SAR teams on Mount Rainier retrieved a female body off-trail Saturday near Boundary Creek.
Sykes, 70, went missing on Rainier Wednesday after continuing down a trail without her hiking partner, reports the Associated Press. Her boyfriend, Bob Morthorst, says that the pair encountered snow at 5,000 feet.
In a statement, the National Parks Service said that the body will be autopsied and identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner. The cause of death is currently under investigation.
