Robert Redford has signed on to adapt Peter Shelton’s 2003 novel, Climb to Conquer: The Untold Story of WWII’s 10th Mountain Division Ski Troop, Variety reports. The book recounts the exploits of the U.S. Army’s Mountain Division, the only group of WWII soldiers trained in rock climbing, skiing, and mountaineering. The 10th Division—whose members included the founding members of the Sierra Club, Nike, and the Aspen Skiing Corps—made significant contributions to the Allied victory over Axis forces in Italy’s Dolomite range.
Redford has been on somewhat of an outdoors kick lately. Coming off his critically acclaimed performance in last year’s seafaring drama All is Lost, Redford is co-starring in the adaptation of Bill Bryson’s classic hiking memoir A Walk in the Woods, due out later this year.
