After picking up a lost hiker in New Mexico, a police helicopter crashes, initiating another rescue operation

Talk about bad luck turning into good luck, turning into bad again: A female hiker lost in the mountains near the Santa Fe Ski area got rescued by a New Mexico State Police helicopter on Tuesday night, but before they could make it to safety, the helicopter crashed into a mountainside. Now, new rescue teams have been dispatched to rescue the rescue team, but snow, ice, and poor visibility have hindered search efforts and grounded National Guard helicopters.

The pilot was responsive just after the crash, but when dispatchers asked if he was OK, he replied "not really" and lost contact. No word on the status of the lost hiker or another spotter on board the chopper. Searchers might only be a mile away or so from the crash site, but the aforementioned horrible weather and difficulty of rescuing people in rugged mountains make it difficult to know for sure.

Hopefully everyone survives and lives to write competing tell-all survival books. I'd imagine the woman who needed to get rescued twice has the best shot at getting a movie-of-the-week.
