New Ansel Adams Photos On Display

The Interior Department displays 26 unreleased photos from the National Archives

Ansel Adams addicts, get ready: The Interior Department is putting 26 unreleased Adams photos on display in the first and second floors of its Washington building.

In 1941, Interior secretary Harold Ickes commissioned Adams to take photos of iconic American lands, but the project got shelved in 1942 as funds shifted to tackle World War II. Now, the full spread of Ickes' intended vision is complete: the 26 photographic murals grace the walls of the Interior Department headquarters just as he had hoped.

In addition to the Tetons shot above, Adams' series includes portraits of Native American children, Old Faithful, and multiple shots of Kings Canyon. (Click here to check them out.)

The public is invited to take a look at the portraits, but you must make an appointment in advance and be able to show ID in order to enjoy a private tour.
