That's the Kisaralik River. Hardly a secret. A nice river, but there are many others just as good.
Typical elitist. " I can go because I am privileged but you can't unless you win this trip". Frankly, I'd rather fish the Kenai with all of the other ordinaries. The "combat fishing" is an adventure unto itself. Or go up to Milepost 180 Lake on the Parks Highway and catch Grayling there. Try the Montana Creek for grayling. Leave your tent. Rent an RV from Great Alaskan Holidays in Anchorage. You'll be much more comfortable and it will be worth the money to have heat and you won't desecrate the land by pooping outside. You can park your RV right by the River at the Russian River Ferry (Coopers Landing) where the Ferry brings fishermen from one side of the Kenai to the other. This is just below the confluence of the Russian and the Kenai Rivers. We were there in late June and caught Red Salmon (delicious when cooked on the grill with butter-wrap the filet in aluminum foil) and Dolly Varden. Never forget that the fisherman beside you is probably fishing to fill his freezer before the long Alaskan winter sets in. Have some respect for that. They have fish and game who strictly regulate the spawning seasons. We don't need backpacker to play policemen.
actually, Dolly Varden and arctic char are two completely different fish. Dolly varden have much pinker spots and bellies as well as teal colored flanks. The arctic chars range is far more northern also, Dolly vardens dont go much further north than the north coast of alaska.
