hen it comes to sheer ability to alter a landscape and shock the human senses, you can't beat the May blooms of a mountain laurel thicket.
Getting There: From Cumberland, take I-68 west to exit 22. Turn left onto Chestnut Ridge Road and go 3 miles to New Germany Road. Turn left and drive 2 miles to the ranger station.
Prime Time: May, June.
