When the big ones are rising far in the center of the lake, or you want to fish and float, reach them with this packable vessel. Made of tough nylon, it weighs only a tad more than two pounds and packs down to water-bottle size. It holds up to 310 pounds, and our 6’2” tester found the 46x42-inch size comfortable and stable. Mastering the art of casting while reclining? That’s part of the fun. Tip: To keep your butt warm in cold water, sit on your sleeping pad. $299; 2 lbs. 5 oz.; flyweightdesigns.com

I tried a number of models similar to this one that friends bought over the years and they all had the exact same problem. Their only controllable on a quiet, calm, sheltered from the wind lake. Also most Mountain Lakes in the Sierra's where I hike are at a bit below 50 degrees in Mid-August which means your butt is goin go be very cold and if the raft springs a leak,,your in trouble, you have less than 5 minutes to get out of that water. The only way I was able to Master a cast with a Trout rod, Bait Casting Rod, Spinning Rod, was to carry a big rock and some paracord which I used as an Anchor.
