Tent Review: Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo

A traditional tent with ample room for one.

by: Mike Lanza, BACKPACKER Northwest Editor

Can't decide whether you really need a traditional tent? This gram-grudging thru-hiker fave solves the quandary by offering ample room for one plus gear, with a big vestibule and side door perfect for sitting up and enjoying the view. It withstood windy nights in southern Utah's Capitol Reef, but requires careful pitching for maximum wind-resistance and ventilation; choose sheltered sites and stake the perimeter securely. You'll need a trekking pole that extends to at least 44 inches; many women's poles won't work. For the same price, it comes with either a standard floor or an ultralight version that's 4 ounces lighter but less durable.

Price: $235

Weight: 1 lb. 6 oz.
