A pack that cuts the weight without sacrificing the comfort.
We hate repeating ourselves, but almost a year after this pack won an Editors' Choice Award (4/05), it's still our top pick for cutting significant weight without compromising comfort. Other packs may be lighter, but no other sub-3-pound weekender can carry moderate loads as snugly with such efficient load transfer as the G; we've hauled it on 10-hour days with 35 pounds aboard and come away without a sore spot. Credit the pack's innovative side stabilizer straps and stiff, contoured framesheet. The packbag zips wide open to swallow foul-weather gear and supplies for weekend trips, and deep mesh pockets and tool attachments add all-season versatility. But careful: The silicone-impregnated nylon is meant for trail hikes, not canyoneering and thorny bushwhacks.
