Boot Review: Dunham Waffle Stomper Premier

A long lasting, hard working boot

by: The Backpacker Editors

"Super-tough boots in a compact design," our tester writes after waltzing these ruby-red slippers around Utah's Boulder Mountain. The synthetic uppers and stiff sole package deliver top-notch support and rigidity for the weight and price, but allow for break-in, because the sole and rear foot are stiff. Your reward: Hard-working boots that should last forever. Available in three widths to fit a variety of feet.

Price: $175

I got my Waffle Stompers a little less than 3 years ago and the sole is detaching & crumbling as well. When calling Dunham, they told me that after 2 years, they can't really do anything. A good pair of hiking boots should last longer than that. Other than that, I have loved the boots, but for my next pair, I am not going to purchase Dunham again if I have to keep replacing every few years. Probably worth dropping a bit more money into some better boots from now on.

I bought these boots because they are made by New Balance, which fit my wide feet well. The disappointment with these boots is that the synthetic material between the sole and uppers on one of the boots has crumbled away, allowing the sole to begin to detach from the uppers.

Mine leak as well. Plan to replace them.

mine leaked like sieves. planning to replace. Disappointing as they were available in narrow width so are a good fit. My husband's Dunham boots (different model) leaked as well. Dunham needs to work on their technology.
