» Belle Isle Loop, James River SP “It’s a mini wilderness right downtown,” says organizer Alec Richardson of this seven-mile circuit starting on the south bank’s bluffs. Cross onto the maple-shaded shores of Belle Isle at the pedestrian bridge. From there, head to the north shore hills and views of the river’s class IV whitewater. On this gentle, two-mile loop around tiny Beaver Lake, you’ll trace freshwater marshes shaded by clusters of sycamore trees.
