John Muir and the Ice that Started a Fire
by Kim Heacox (Lyons Press; April 2014)

Muir is typically associated with his beloved Sierra range, but in the late 1800s, the naturalist traveled to Alaska (still considered "Seward's Folly" at that time) to tour an awesome landscape of ice. Heacox's beautifully written tale is an illuminating exploration of the outdoor sage and his prescient embrace of glaciology.
