Nothing is more relaxing than a belly rub. Your dog knows it, your cat knows it, babies know it, you know it (Uh, have you not had one? Go get one right now!). Even wolves know it – as proven by Maiah, a rescued wolf at a wolf education facility in Cocolalla, Idaho. Photographer Shelby Bower was nearby when Maiah experienced a serious belly-rub deficit. Luckily, Bower came to the rescue:
The fact that wolves thrill to belly rubs shouldn’t be that surprising. Technically they're the same species as your friendly neighborhood puggle, so they exhibit many of the same behaviors, including pack tendencies, circling before lying down, howling, digging, and rolling in horrible-smelling things. But you gotta admit: Maiah the wolf looks a whole lot more badass than your average shih tzu – even when just getting a belly rub.
