Get a Bear's-Eye View on Life

These videos show what it's like to eat, sleep, and play like a grizzly.

Did you know bears snore?  Did you know they love pushing over giant dead trees for the thrill of it?  (I mean, wouldn’t you if you were the most powerful beast in North America?)

These are just two of the insights into brown bear behavior that came out of a joint project between wildlife filmmaker Michel Tonelli and Slovenian wildlife officials. They fitted a female European grizzly from the Slovenian highlands (nicknamed Tolossi) with a camera and a GPS collar and filmed her for several months. The resulting footage is on display at the Museum of Natural History in Toulouse, and will tour Europe. But thanks to the good ol’ internet, you can watch a few highlights now:

Snoring:

Sticking out her enormous tongue:

Knocking over trees:

There’s loads more footage at the site showing off activities such as narfing a bunch of larvae, rock hopping, and watching cars pass.  (Use Google Translate to translate the captions if you don’t speak French).  Sit back and enjoy being a wild bear for a few hours.
