Want HD resolution in the smallest available package? The Sony HandyCam HDR-TG1 is your pick. The mini camcorder packs high-quality HD video technology into a unit the size of a paperback. Other features that justify the price: Sony's Face Detection–which recognizes up to eight of your subjects' mugs in the frame and adjusts focus, exposure, and even skin tone for optimum display; a touch screen for easy navigation; and a trigger-style point-and-shoot design on the built-in 4-megapixel camera, which lets you shoot still photos while filming. Downside: No hard drive, and you have to use Sony's proprietary memory cards (not generic SD cards). $900; 10.5 oz.; sonystyle.com. Reader service #116

READERS COMMENTS

One thing to remember when picking a camcorder. Alway check the specification for use at high altitudes. The ones that have the hard drives are not warenteed for use over 8 or 9 thousand feet above sea level. So make sue you check with the manufacturer prior to purchase.
