A hunter mistook a Virgina college student for a deer and fired, killing her and injuring a companion
Hunting season and fall hiking season overlap, and unfortunately that can lead to deadly accidents: A hunter in Virginia shot and killed a college student trekking through the woods after mistaking her for a deer. Senior Jessica Goode was collecting frogs for a biology class on county-owned wilderness property near Ferrum College when she was shot through the chest. The bullet ricocheted and struck her classmate in the hand; he's currently recuperating in the hospital.

I'm an avid outdoorsman. I love to camp, hike, rough it, backpack, canoe, etc. But I also love to hunt. I just want to remind people on here that most hunters are safe, ethical and responsible, and they abhor people that would tresspass or shoot without knowing their target and beyond. Please don't judge us as a group for this man's actions, because we aren't all stupid rednecks. Thanks.

I had an experience when I went hunting with a group of disgruntled hunters. They have a tendency to hate city folk and if no one knows where they are or they have an alibi, anything is possible. The part that gets me is that I feel that no hunter shoots without being certain about the deer. They could lose their trucks or their jobs!
