The Backpacker Gear Hall Of Fame: Packs

A look back at the packs we've loved for years that's still at the top of its class.

Therm-a-Rest Z Lite
Arc’teryx Altra
“The best hipbelt we’ve ever tested,” is the verdict on this 2010 Editors’ Choice winner. Credit the pivoting action and the wide, stiff, memory-foam-like padding for all-day comfort, with not even a hint of big-load sag. A rigid framesheet aces load transfer and wide, padded shoulder straps boost comfort. $399; 5 lbs. 1 oz.; 75 liters;

BP seems to have missed the mark here, and forgot one pack in particular that is Awesome... The Ospery Aether. recently it seems that the buyers guide and gear guide have become nothing more that BP's way of advertising a product. usually I cant go wrong in using the gear they recommend, Aether is no exception, I have logged hundreds of miles and have had NO complaints NO failures, no worries.

Beware of the very narrow torso size of 15" - 16". I was really excited to order but it had to be returned because of this. Beautiful pack though if you're in this specific size range.
