Testers who put serious off-trail miles on these all-leather Gore-Tex boots–carrying heavy packs through terrain with sustained side-hilling and lots of steep, big steps down–gave them the highest grades for support and comfort. "Through all my hiking in these boots, my feet have never once felt fatigued," one tester said.

The fit holds even narrow heels securely, yet gives toes plenty of space. A wraparound rubber rand armors the Lhasa against the worst abuse: Our test boots handled snow, mud, and constant banging against rocks, from Yellowstone to remotest Idaho, and emerged looking no worse for the wear.
