From New Hampshire's White Mountains to southeast Alaska, testers hiked this burly, all-leather, Gore-Tex high-cut through miles of rain, mud, creeks, and wet vegetation, and found its waterproofing infallible. The stoutest boot reviewed here, it's supersupportive and stiff, and ably handled unstable, rocky terrain and the worst bushwhacks; it'll carry as big a load as you're willing.

Lacing proved smooth and secure, and a lacing "stud" kept the tongue from slipping sideways. After a rough traverse of the Presidential Range, one tester said, "They barely look used." With little exposed stitching, a wraparound rubber rand, and quality construction, this boot may need mention in your will. But use it in colder conditions: It's quite warm.
