Don't be fooled by the minimal weight and trail-runner feel of these shoes–they're built for anything. After rugged dayhikes of up to 16 miles and more than 5,000 feet of vertical gain in Washington's North Cascades, one tester ranked these "among the most versatile hiking shoes I've ever used–great for dayhikes, running, and ultralight backpacking." The Nextec Outdry treatment kept our feet dry through miles of kicking steps in soft snow. And because Outdry is a membrane laminated directly to the uppers, the treatment prevents the fabric from wetting out–and getting heavier.

The fit is snug and stable in the heel and midfoot, with ample toe space. The secure ankle collar–it's a "higher" low-cut, coming up even to the ankle bone–kept out debris, while the two-level lacing system allows you to adjust the forefoot and ankle separately.
