Answer:

The best way to protect your wedding rings is to leave them at home. That’s what I typically do when I go backpacking. Rough surfaces can scratch the ring’s finish, and you’d be bumming if any of the settings come loose and a diamond goes missing. Wearing rings while scrambling or climbing or bushwhacking can put your fingers at risk, too. It’s conceivable that something could get caught on your ring and break your finger.

If you’re the type who feels naked without your ring, you could try wrapping it with medical or duct tape. I’ve tried that, but I don’t like the sticky, sweaty feeling. I feel much safer and more responsible leaving my rings at home.
