Tent Review: Sierra Designs Electron

An affordable two-person tent that holds up in any weather, spring through fall

Tester Berne Broudy returned from a three-continent tour raving about this 2-person tent, which costs less than $200 and survived high winds, tropical downpours, and 2 weeks as the novelty shelter in a village in Ghana. She says the freestanding tent’s taut pitch will hold up to any weather, spring through fall. Two spacious vestibules stored packs and shoes; double doors and a roomy interior made it easy for two average size people to share it day after day (a pair of big-and-tall hikers will be cramped). It pitches quickly with clips, and extensive mesh panels moved air on hot nights. Amazingly, the price includes a coffee sling, portable attic, and fastpack footprint. One complaint: Rain drips in the tent door when the fly is unzipped.

Price: $180
