The Hoodoo isn't exactly ultralight, but it provides plush quarters for a great price.

“Get mansion living for a condo price!” said one tester after riding out a Welsh storm in this freestanding dome. It has outstanding headroom, floor space, and two large vestibules, letting one 6’7″ tester and his partner share it comfortably even on a rain- and wind-blasted night. Credit a complex pole system for the near-vertical walls and XXL dimensions; it takes practice to pitch quickly, but creates a taut, stable structure. The ground-hugging fly seals out even wind-driven moisture, but doesn’t cause condensation problems thanks to effective vents.

Features like a smart ceiling shelf and two large interior pockets increase the tent’s livability. Caveats: When open, the vestibule channeled rainwater inside the tent door. And at nearly six pounds, the Hoodoo is more ultra-value than ultralight. $219; 5 lbs. 13 oz.REI.com
