Tent Review: Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2

The lightest freestanding double-wall tent in the universe.

If you didn't dash out to buy this tent after we ranked it tops among sub-4-pounders (10/05), there's good news: It's lost 5 ounces, making it the lightest freestanding double-wall in our known universe. The Seedhouse withstood stout winds from the Cascades to the Appalachians, thanks to a sturdy hubbed pole that, with clips, also makes pitching easy. The all-mesh canopy allows great airflow, though you'll want to avoid sandy campsites on windy nights and prepare for condensation in freezing temps. Interior space is fine if you're not stormbound or taller than 6 feet. With an optional footprint ($50), the SL2 rigs rainfly-only at just 2 lbs. 2 oz.
