Outdoor Research has ratcheted up the volume on basic fleece gloves by adding glow-in-the-dark palms. Is it a little gimmicky? Well yeah, but they really DO glow just from being out in the light. Charge them up with a flashlight for an extra boost when stumbling around for a midnight potty break. The sticky texture on the palms and fingers offers good dexterity and shows no signs of wear. The fabric, perennial favorite Polartec Windstopper, kept my digits warm on dozens of breezy fall Cascades mornings, right down to around freezing. (I added a shell mitt to gain around another ten degrees.) A small plastic clasp, unobtrusively located on the outside edge of each glove keeps them together in your pack and makes mom immensely proud. Pro: Pull loops on the wrists made getting into these a cinch. Con: sizing is unisex. Ladies, order one size down.
