GPS Review: Motorola i560 GPS Cell Phone

This rugged unit will let you call home from the trail

Drop most phones, and you're sweeping up a mess of plastic shards and mangled chips. Not this rugged unit, which is certified to strict military standards for dust, shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures. Testers dropped it, splashed it, and exposed it to sand in the gritty slots of Glen Canyon, but still reported dead-on accuracy and zero malfunctions. Inside is an assisted-GPS device that works outside the cell grid, along with the usual options found on a cell phone. The screen is duller than other mobiles, but more efficient in terms of battery power (6-8 hours with a rechargeable lithium pack).
