Can bears and other critters be a problem at night even if all our group has for food are, say Clif Bars - or any other similar kind of energy/protein bars?

Answer:

Yes! Bears are not picky. They’d be perfectly happy chowing on a stale Clif Bar or a tube of Colgate toothpaste. You don’t have to be cooking New York strip steaks to attract bears. Their sense of smell is acute and they aren’t picky when it comes to free grub. In bear country, you’ll sleep a whole lot better if you pack your edibles in either a bear-resistant canister or hang your food safely out of their reach.

    hi when i was 5, i was bit in the back by a black bear in yellowstone. it was 1966 and bears came out of the mountain, across the grassy knoll and upto the picnic tables. every one was standing in the parking lot at tower falls and somehow a bear made its way by alot of people stood up on its hind legs, pushed my face down to the ground with its paw and then bit my back leaving two punctures. a native indian lady told me it was the greatest blessing one can recieve and would one day understand it. she said the bear put something in me and wasnt going to hurt me.
