DIY Pack Upgrade

I am considering retro-fitting my old Kelty external frame backpack with new shoulder straps. Should I also replace the hipbelt?

Answer:

Absolutely. Not doing so would be like repainting your house, but not doing the attached garage. Kelty has a great warranty and repair department and they love to keep old Kelty gear in circulation.

Replacing the shoulder straps and hipbelt on a pack from the 50s to through the 80s will set you back about 40 bucks (prices vary a bit depending on the model). Contact their repair department at warranty@kelty.com or (800) 535-3589 to get the full scoop.
