Duct Tape For Chafing?

I want to try duct tape to prevent chafing between the legs, but I'm too scared to try. Do you know if this works better than lotions or creams?

I use duct tape for potential hot spots on my feet when I go for a long hike, and it works great. I want to try the same for chafing between the legs, but I’m too scared to try. Do you know if this works better than lotions or creams?

Answer:

The adhesive in duct tape can be irritating to sensitive skin. Some people cannot even use it on their feet. It is not recommended for the inner thighs. Of course, the irritation is not seriously harmful–it’s just, well, irritating. Most people find wearing a “lubricating” layer of clothing against the skin, such as synthetic long underwear, works well. Others add a lubricating lotion, such as baby rash ointment.

    ExOfficio boxer-briefs work wonders. For your feet get a pair of thin synthetic sock-liners. For running I use WrightSock. It’s double layered and really does help with blisters on longer runs. You can try those for summer hiking.
