What is the shelf life of chlorine dioxide tablets?

Question:

What is the shelf life of chlorine dioxide tablets?

Answer:

If they remain sealed in the package—and if they are not exposed to extremes of heat (oh, say, about 90°F and up)—they should last for four years, possibly longer. They start breaking down pretty fast once they are exposed to moisture and air, and kind of fast when exposed to heat.  —Buck

With shelf stable items you should avoid sun light mainly because of the heat transfer. put the mre in the closet and not on the table by the window. Arizona sun will heat that meal up faster then the chemical heater packet. Which will cause at least loss of flavor, and at worse loss of bowel.
