Bomber gaiters that block out slime.

After hiking through boggy, shin-deep mud in New Zealand’s Southern Alps, our tester called the Black Diamond GTX FrontPoint Gaiters a godsend. “They unfailingly kept slime out of my boots, and the extra-fat Velcro closure stayed securely shut no matter how wet or gooey things got,” he attests. The Gore-Tex-lined nylon upper provides good breathability (though in hot weather, a low or ultralight gaiter would be more appropriate), and the lower half, made of ballistic nylon, stands up to sharp crampon points. $70; 9 oz.; black-
