Gear Review: Davek Traveler Umbrella

A pricey umbrella that's worth every penny.

When chronic rain has water dripping off your nose, down your neck, and up your sleeves, pop open a bumbershoot. The Davek Traveler proved its worth in Mt. Rainier National Park, when our tester used it to shield himself and his son through a dreary day of downpours.

“My kid was super happy when I pulled this out, and at nine inches long [folded], it disappears into a daypack,” he reports. The Traveler handles wind much better than average (and cheaper) models, because of its seven-rib stainless-steel frame, and the 40-inch coverage is better than most. Of course, it better be, considering the price. $79; 13 oz.; davekny.com
