Sleeping Bag Review: Kelty Light Year 25

The comfortably roomy cut pleased all testers.

by: Dennis Lewon

How good a value is this bag? One tester thought it was a synthetic sleeper, based on the price tag, then opened the box and learned that the 2-pound sack is all 650-fill-power down. It's not as lofty as some, but the Light Year kept us warm in subfreezing temps on trips from canyon country to the Cascades, and its tough DWR-treated ripstop shell repelled condensation and even the coffee Annette spilled on it. It has a half-length main zip, but ventilation is improved by an additional zipper in the footbox. The comfortably roomy cut pleased all testers, and only on the chilliest nights did I wish it had a draft collar and tube.

Price: $150

Rating: 25°F

Sizes: 2 sizes

Weight: 2 lbs. 2 oz.

I find the rating very in-accurate. I've been cold at temps above freezing (and in a tent).
