Gear Review: Adidas Terrex Fast X FM

A low-cut hiker that fits and feels like a supportive sneaker.

This low-cut hiker fits and feels like a supportive sneaker—but it’s way more versatile. It has the support for hiking with a light pack, but it’s so light and cushy that I could also use it for occasional trail runs. When I was scampering up Vermont’s steep, rocky Mt. Mansfield, I felt as surefooted as a mountain goat—the sole rubber is infused with carbon, which enhances grip and durability.

An EVA midsole reinforced with a plastic forefoot plate prevented underfoot soreness even on rocky terrain. The Gore-Tex liner kept my feet dry, yet the ultrabreathable mesh fabric on the padded upper kept them from overheating. adidas.com
