Gear Hall of Fame: Ultralight

When youíre ready to shave pounds from your pack, itís time to invest in ultralight gear. Hereís a look at some of our all-time favorite featherweights.

[14-oz. pack]
Gossamer Gear Gorilla
We loved this pack because you can strip it down for ultralight trips or add aluminum stays and extra padding (10 oz.) for a more traditional experience. $180 (includes all accessories); gossamergear.com

I have used this back along the JMT, where one must cary a Bear Canister. At first I did not think everything would fit inside this pack, but it did. I put the canister inside and stuffed everything around it. The outside mesh pockets also hold more than one might think. I don't know the exact weight but is was close to 30 lb. Not uncomfortable to carry. All worked well.
