Gear Review: Kuhl Renegade Pants

Styled like cotton pants, but built to work out.

by: Kelly Bastone

The Kuhl Renegade is styled after your fave pair of cotton work pants, but features Tufflex fabric (a blend of 91 percent nylon and 9 percent spandex), so it actually wicks, dries fast, and stretches generously. That stretch, combined with the gusseted crotch and articulated knees, gave our tester unrestricted mobility while lunging and scrambling across sandstone ledges in Colorado National Monument. Fit is similarly unconfining, with a generous cut through the hips and thighs. Pockets are numerous (seven) but unobtrusive, so you don’t get the Army-surplus look. The mesh lining inside the two zippered upper-thigh pockets allow them to double as vents, and the belt loops don’t chafe beneath a pack’s hipbelt. $70; 14 oz.; kuhl.com
