Gear Review: GoLite TraveLite 30'' Wheeled Duffel

An expedition-size wheeled duffle.

Our testers hauled the expedition-size GoLite TraveLite 30” Wheeled Duffel for weeklong trips to Alaska, Scotland, and Utah, and the 110-liter cargo bag carted everything from fully loaded packs to crampons and ice axes. “The soft-sided rectangular behemoth opens like a book for easy packing, and since it’s light for its size, I didn’t get dinged on overweight baggage fees,” attests one traveler.

Trekking pole tips couldn’t punch through the rugged fabric (the same 50-percent-recycled, 420-denier nylon used on GoLite’s backpacks). The carrying straps are positioned so the TraveLite can pinch-hit as a backpack, though it lacks a hipbelt. Other nitpicks: Its massive size makes it tippy, and testers wished for more compression straps. $275; 8 lbs. 11 oz.; golite.com
